What is a Heavy Duty Steer Axle System?
When it comes to the world of heavy-duty vehicles, reliability and stability are paramount. This is why steer axle systems play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety, efficiency, and overall performance of heavy duty trailers and vocational trucks. This article will review Dexter’s heavy duty steer axle system and highlight the key benefits. Our Steer Axle system is trusted by the heavy duty industry that demands the best.
BUILT FOR DURABILITY AND STABILITY
Manufactured using state-of-the-art friction welds, which are stronger than traditional plug welds. Dexter’s heavy duty steer axle systems are engineered to withstand the harshest conditions. This advanced welding technique significantly extends the axle's lifespan, providing a cost-effective solution for businesses relying on heavy-duty vehicles daily.
One standout feature of our steer axle system is the exceptional turn radius. A reduced turn radius translates to enhanced maneuverability, decreased stress on your trailer, and diminished tire wear. Ultimately, this leads to lower maintenance costs and an overall improvement in operational efficiency.
THE SMART-STEER® DIFFERENCE: TRUSTED DURABILITY
Dexter’s heavy duty Smart-Steer® system, offers unparalleled durability and control. Rigorously load-tested to the breaking point; our system ensures your safety on the road. High-strength forged steel components, coupled with a cutting-edge kingpin design, deliver optimal control and performance, establishing our Smart-Steer® as the sturdiest and most innovative self-steer axles on the market.
Furthermore, Smart-Steer® axles increase trailer load-carrying capacity and stability, presenting a substantial advantage for industries where the payload is critical. They also utilize industry-standard components for maximum durability and easy installation, further simplifying maintenance and repairs.
Key Features Include:
• Track lengths of up to 140 inches, accommodating a wide range of trailer types.
• Capacities of up to 25,000 lbs., ensuring your trailer can handle even the heaviest loads.
• Integrated air ride suspensions that enhance ride comfort and stability.
• Tire inflation system, keeping your tires at the ideal pressure for maximum performance and longevity.
• SPIF-compliant design to meet legal requirements.
• Dual draw key kingpin design for added security and stability.
• Multiple lock mechanism designs to suit your specific needs.
WHAT SETS STEER AXLES APART FROM STANDARD OR RIGID AXLES?
Conventional standard or rigid axles remain fixed in a straight position as the trailer moves. Consequently, when a semi-trailer makes a turn, the inflexible axle resists the motion, causing the tires to work against the trailer's movement. This leads to accelerated tire wear and puts additional strain on the trailer frame through the suspension system.
In contrast, a trailer equipped with Dexter’s heavy-duty steer axle system allows the axle to align with the trailer's motion during a turn. This results in reduced tire friction and less force exerted on the trailer frame.
