Dexter^® is proud to offer an extensive range of surge actuators, available in capacities from 6,600 lbs. to 20,000 lbs. and in both disc brake and drum brake varieties. Our unique inner-member and outer-member combinations have a variety of configurations, offering manufacturers flexibility when designing trailers for different applications. Design features include Drop-N-Go^TM couplers, sleek square-nose couplers, and round-nose lever-lock couplers. Heavy-duty models offer adjustable channel mounts for pintle-eyes, 2-5/16" couplers, and clevis hitches.

Our surge actuators have corrosion-resistant rollers and bushings which create smoother movements and better load distribution for a superior ride and longer life. Surge Actuators provide sound and safe braking and is accomplished by replacing the trailer's standard tongue coupler with a surge actuator and adding hydraulic brake end units. The "surge" or "push" of the trailer toward the tow vehicle during deceleration automatically synchronizes the trailer brakes with the tow vehicle brakes. As the trailer pushes against the towing vehicle, the actuator telescopes together and applies force to its master cylinder, supplying hydraulic pressure to the trailer's brakes.
